Our sixth form offers opportunities for students who fulfil the academic criterion of 5 or more full course Grade 6 GCSEs subject to any individual course requirements (students are required to achieve a minimum Grade 6 in the subjects they wish to study at A level). Please note all students require at least a Grade 5 in English Language and Maths to be eligible for a place.
Currently we cannot support students who need to re-take GCSEs. The maximum Year 12 cohort for September 2018 entry is 150 including a minimum planned admission number of 30 candidates from other schools. A full copy of our Admissions Policy for the Sixth Form can be found at the bottom of the page.
The application process begins with our Sixth Form Open Evening which is run jointly with Marling School Sixth Form. For 2018 entry, our Open Evening will take place on Thursday 9 November 2017 between 5pm and 8pm. It is not necessary to register attendance. The evening provides an opportunity to find out about our A level courses, their outline programmes, their assessment methods and the enrichment and career opportunities associated with each. There is also a chance to discuss course choices with the subject leaders of each department and with current sixth form students.
Sixth Form application forms are provided at the Open Evening together with detailed information on the courses available (electronic versions of our Application Form and Prospectus will be available on our website in late September 2017). Our deadline for applications for 2018 entry is Friday 2 February 2018.
All applications for the sixth form must be made using the Application Form for September 2018 Entry. You can also request a hard copy of the application form by contacting Julia Merrett, KS5 Administrator (email@example.com).
The application form should be completed neatly in black ink and posted to:
Mr P John
Head of Sixth Form
Stroud High School
Following submission of the application form, applicants will be invited to attend an advisory discussion with a senior member of the Stroud High School leadership team to discuss subject choices, career pathway and how time at the school will prepare them for the future. Your current school will be asked for a reference. These discussions will take place on Monday 19 February and Tuesday 20 February 2018 between 4pm and 6pm.
Applicants are then sent a conditional offer confirming subject choices at the beginning of April 2018. Applicants choose the courses they wish to study at this stage, however, any offer made is for a place at the sixth form, with allocation and enrolment on courses completed later. Final places in Year 12 are subsequently confirmed following GCSE results day in August.
We will be holding our Inductions Days on Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 July 2018. The focus of our first Induction Day is to allow you to get to know the school and the sixth form team and make sure you feel comfortable coming to a new learning environment. The second Induction Day is run jointly with Marling School Sixth Form. You will meet teachers from your proposed areas of study who will prepare you for the year ahead and provide advice and guidance on the transition from Year 11 to Year 12.
