Online Safety

Online Safety forms an important part of our Wellbeing Strategy and we are committed to supporting students and parents as they navigate the online world.

Online Safety BOOST

Online Safety BOOST is a service provided by South West Grid for Learning that offers expert information and training resources.

Below are Parts 1-4 of ‘BOOST Parents: An Introduction to Online Safety.’

UK Safer Internet Checklist

The UK Safer Internet Centre has compiled a set of checklists that provide tips and guidance on how to use safety and privacy features on a range of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat:

Snapchat Instagram
TikTok Twitter
Facebook Netflix
Roblox

Social Media Guide

As part of our Online Safety Strategy, we consulted with students to find out what advice they would give to other young people navigating the online world. From this, we created a ‘Student Guide to Social Media’ written for students, by students. You can find this linked below.

Virgin Media O2 Online Safety Test

We want internet users of all ages to enjoy all the wonderful things the web has to offer, safely. Virgin Media O2 have created a children’s internet safety test to help build awareness for parents and children of all ages to ensure they are better protected online.

Reporting

If you are concerned about anything your child sees or receives online, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can do this via phone, email, or the ‘Online Safety’ wellbeing tracker on Class Charts.

In addition to reporting to school, we would also advise you to report your concern through the Report Harmful Content online platform.

RHC button explainer

The Report Harmful Content (RHC) button is an asset of SWGfL, a charity working internationally to ensure everyone benefits from technology, free from harm.

Children under 13 years of age are encouraged to tell an adult that they trust about what has happened and to ask for their help in reporting this going through the How We Can Help resource together.

RHC also have advice and links to reporting routes for other online harms people may come across or face, such as impersonation, privacy violations and intimate image abuse.

The RHC button provides a gateway to the RHC reporting pages, an area of the RHC website offering:

  • links to reporting routes on commonly used sites for 8 types of online harm
  • help, advice and support on what to do if experiencing or witnessing harm online
  • signposting to industry partners reporting forms and the ability to report legal but harmful content directly to RHC for further investigation

Reporting to RHC

Reports can be made 24/7 through the online reporting forms and helpline practitioners will review and respond to reports within 72 hours between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

Reports can be made to RHC by anyone over the age of 13. SWGfL operates 3 helplines and to be sure you're getting the right support, take a look at the Helpline Flowchart to find out who can best support you.
