What a great weekend the Stroud High School Equestrian Squad had over October 22-23: Eleven girls competed with some great results. Firstly, huge congratulations to the girls who qualified for the National Schools Equestrian Championships held on Saturday 22 October. Maddy and Bea Adamson, Annie Testar and Frankie Hobbins qualified in the 80cm show jumping class, but Frankie was unable to go so was replaced by Meg Matthews. There were 50 teams (200 competitors) taking part and the team finished on 12 faults which put them out of the placings but a fantastic achievment for them all nonetheless.
On Sunday 23 October, four year 7 girls joined the squad for the first time in a British Show Jumping Just for Schools competition and the team came 2nd in the 70cm class. Well done to Laura Mathieson, Lucy Atkins, Skye Paton and Poppy Faskin. We did even better in the 80cm class and the team consisting of Skye, Poppy, Jemima Hughes and Ella Harries-Jacob came 1st! Skye and Jemima also came individual 6th and 5th respectively. In the 90cm class we didn't get placed as a team, but Jemima and Ella came 3rd and 2nd individually. Finally, but by no means least, Zoe Osborne came 1st in the 1m class.
Let's hope the points gained will help Stroud High School get a team to the British Show Jumping Championships again next summer.
