Famelab Finalists Wow SHS With Science!

Stroud High School hosted the first of this year's famelab academy school finals. Eleven fantastic Year 9 students talked for 3 minutes each on subjects ranging from why your tummy rumbles, to what it would mean to live in a 4D universe to an audience of Year 8 students and the contestants' parents/carers. The judges: Elspeth Kenny (Cheltenham Festivals education manager), Lucy Guile (Junior doctor and STEM mentor) and our own Mark McShane had a difficult job deciding between the talks but selected Jess's talk on stretching (complete with the splits) and Daisy's on whether a penny dropping from the Eiffel tower would kill you as runners up, and Anna's explanation of brain freeze, along with top tips on who to avoid it as our winner.

Anna will go on to have 2 days of science communication training along with the other finalists from Gloucestershire schools, spend a day in a local STEM company and compete in the Grand Final in March.

Congratulations to all our finalists and to the whole of Year 9, all of whom wrote and presented talks in class.
