On Saturday 22 June A Level Student Lydia, along with CTL for Design and Technology Terri Lazenbury, travelled to ‘The Royal Grammar School’ in Worcester for the finals of the ‘Young Fashion Designer of the Year 2019’ (YFD UK) competition. We were thrilled that Lydia’s work had been selected for the final of this prestigious competition with other finalists coming from as far and wide as Liverpool, Doncaster and Birmingham. We arrived bright and early to set up our displays of both design and practical work at along with the other finalists in the A Level category. After having their static displays judged, students were interviewed by two panels of judges made up of a range of industry professionals to discuss their work.
Students had the opportunity to view and discuss portfolio and project work with a former winner currently studying Textiles at university and took part in a weaving workshop. Prizes were presented at 2pm and we were thrilled when it was announced that Lydia was a Runner Up in her category which is an incredible achievement as the standard was extremely high. Lydia received a contemporary Fashion textiles book as a prize from the sponsors Morplan and gained a great deal in experience and enjoyment from the day.
Three further Stroud High students received 'Highly Commended' certificates for their work - Macey, Mary and Pippa. Well done to all of our students involved!
