May Dent 2018 Netball Champions

On Saturday 21 April Stroud High School U15 Netball Squad participated in the annual Gloucestershire County Netball Association May Dent Tournament. A competition first introduced in 1979 in honour of a former Chair of Gloucestershire Netball. The girls worked extremely hard and showed great levels of determination in the pool stages with the team target of finishing top of the table, with successes over Pates, HSFG, Bournside, Ribston, and Balcarras.

The SHS team progressed through to the semi-finals against Cotswold School with a final score of 13-1 to Stroud High School. This resulted in a very tense final against Farmors, a team that the squad had played in the SCAPE final in December and lost to by one point. The end of the first half finished with Stroud High School up 7 goals to 4, however a very determined Farmors team played exceptionally well in the second half and at the final whistle the score was 8-8.

The umpires played on to allow a ‘golden goal’ to be scored, and with Stroud High School in possession we were able to put a shot up which was rebounded, played, and scored by Stroud High School to win the May Dent Shield. The team demonstrated fantastic team spirit and huge levels of determination against a very strong Farmors team.
