The Midlands & North Young Fashion Designer Regional Final 2017 proved to be one of the best yet! With exhibitions of students work from many schools across the region, the competition was a wonderful reflection of talent at all levels. Previous winners Edita Kelsey and Edward Jones provided a useful insight into their experiences beyond YFDUK, showing their portfolio of work and giving advice to students about the next steps in their fashion careers. Many teachers joined parents in supporting and celebrating the work of the designers and a great atmosphere was enjoyed by all. A team of industry professionals, lead by Heidi Ambrose-Brown, rose to the challenge of judging the work and the students gained a valuable insight into the world of fashion design at a more competitive level.
Prizes were presented at 2pm and we were thrilled when it was announced that Sophie Willis had received third prize for her AS entry, and Pippa Newport gained second place for her GCSE work. These are incredible achievements as the standard was extremely high in all categories. Sophie and Pippa received great prizes including textile equipment from the sponsors Morplan.
