In KS3 students will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills using a variety of text based resources and authentic materials across a variety of topics. They will learn to cope in a variety of situations both real and imaginary, and be inspired to use both logical and creative abilities to produce complex language in both the written and spoken form. They will also develop opinions on a range of subject matter and be able to articulate their views with confidence.
In Year 8: Students will be taught a range of skills within the contexts of making introductions, family and pets, house and home, school, around the town and free time. Students will gain knowledge of how the language works, of pronunciation, of cultural differences between Spain and the UK and how to give and justify opinions. Students will be taught how to write and speak in short paragraphs using a range of structures including both present and future tenses and will study using a range of texts including authentic Spanish articles and will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
In Year 9: Students will be taught a range of skills within the contexts of free time, holidays, past, present and future, mealtimes, shopping for food, clothes and shopping and health and illness. Students will build on the knowledge gained in year 8 to produce more sophisticated and extended responses and opinions to a variety of topics. Students will be taught how to write and speak in lengthier paragraphs using a range of structures and a variety of tenses and will study using a range of texts including authentic Spanish articles and will continue to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

At GCSE Level: Students follow the AQA syllabus covering topics ranging from family and relationships to the environment and healthy living. The syllabus is based around the four skills of listening (20%), speaking (30%), reading (20%) and writing (30%). Students are required to complete three speaking and three writing controlled assessments, and the best two of each will be submitted to the exam board for marking. Finally students will have a listening and reading examination at the end of year 11 based on all the topic areas studied within the course.

At A-level: Students follow the Edexcel syllabus covering topics ranging from healthy living and lifestyle to education and topical issues such as the death penalty and euthanasia. Students will develop an ability to write fluently and accurately in the foreign language for a range of different purposes and increase an understanding of grammar and how the language fits together and acquire important personal research and study skills through topic and project work.
