SHS U15s are National Handball Champions!

12 June 2023

SHS U13 and U15 Handball Teams travelled to Nottingham this weekend for the National Handball finals. The top 10 schools in the UK attended this prestigious event, and our students were both nervous and excited to attend!

The U13s had a tough draw, first playing Toynbee School - fighting hard but conceding goals and lost the game. They then lost to Putney High, and went on to win a well fought game against Trinity School. This was not enough to secure a place in the semis - a great day of experience though.

The U15 team battled it out all day, playing:

  • Herts & Essex - winning 14-4
  • Durham Johnston - winning 8-4
  • Frances Bardsley - winning 9-3
  • Bower Park - winning 9-3

This led the team to the semi finals, winning against Putney High School, and then onto the final v Oasis Academy, in which SHS won 8-4. This makes our U15 Handball Team, National Champions for 2023!

Special mention goes to Olivia for her amazing goal keeping all day, ensuring our route from the semi final to the final. The whole squad deserve equal praise for a truly passionate and amazing performance, led by co-captains Zuzie & Freya.
