What's Your CyberPower?

21 April 2023

On Wednesday 19 April, Stroud High School hosted the CyberPower event for all of Year 8 and three invited schools, who each brought 15-30 of their Year 8 girls too - Archway, Rednock and St Bede's in Bristol. This event was to inspire our students and show them how varied the cyber world can be, especially for future careers! We hosted seven guest industries who came to provide workshop activities on a rotate for all of the students. Our visitors were from Amiosec, Gemba, Fortinet, Cyber Secuirty Associates, CybSafe, Sopra Steria and Newent School. The activities ranged from Capture the Flag, OSINT (open-source intelligence) and Passwords, Portrait with Code, Marble run Hack and Talk, Stop the Bomb, Hackable Teddies, Cyber Safety with Money talk.

We are a CyberFirst school which is a scheme created by the NCSC to recognise and support schools who help to showcase cyber in their curriculum. This event was supported by industries who work closely in this scheme and the industries really do love to try and inspire the younger generations to see cyber as something other than a hacker in a hoodie!

From the feedback the students have given, it went down really well and they enjoyed a fun and educational day!
