We recognise that all our students have different academic interests which is why at SHSF you can choose your own programme of study from our suite of 26 A Level subjects and 3 Additional Qualifications. You will work alongside specialists in your chosen subjects who will guide and mentor you on your sixth form journey.

Based on university guidance, the majority of our students follow a programme of 3 A Level subjects and an Additional Qualification with a small number opting to take Further Maths as a fourth A Level.

If you wish to undertake four A Levels, it is highly recommended that you have a GCSE profile of a minimum of 64 points from your best 8 GCSE grades. This advice is based on our knowledge of student experiences and academic outcomes.

It is generally advisable to choose the subjects that interest you the most, and that you most enjoy working on – an opportunity to pursue your passions and interests!

At SHSF you will find an exceptional learning environment with challenging lessons centred on the development of independent learning. As part of your induction into academic A Level studies, we will introduce you to the philosophy of SHSF Learning Behaviours to help you achieve academic success and will equip you with the tools to support your scholarship work, the ability to think deeply and to be intellectually confident in your chosen subject disciplines. Each subject department will guide you as to what sort of scholarship work you can do in their subject area and will encourage you to create links between your reading and the curriculum, as well as regularly engaging with it through various different mediums, ranging from podcasts, online forums, articles and lectures to help grow your academic capability and potential.

To further support you in your A Level studies, we have dedicated Sixth Form study rooms with members of the Sixth Form Team on hand to provide advice and guidance.
