On Friday 8 March 2024, the Stroud High School community supported the annual celebration of International Women’s Day. A formidable team of sixth form students organised events to raise awareness on the inequalities still found, both in the UK and globally. They covered issues such as the widening gender pay gap as well as the disproportionate number of women in leadership roles in business, STEM and politics. This also supported our whole school National Careers Week.
A social media campaign allowed everyone to wear purple in support of the cause and pledge their support for a more inclusive world. Other activities included games of 'Guess Who' and 'bingo' with influential women, and a brilliant merch sale of cards, notebooks and tote bags designed in-house. All money raised went towards the school’s continued support of Stroud Women’s Refuge.
Assistant Head, Ria Patel, commented “We are proud that at Stroud High School we subvert national data and gender paradigms with large numbers of sixth form girls studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths, as well as Computing and Technology A Levels. Significant numbers follow into STEM pathways at university and beyond. It was a great event and we look forward to next year.”
