At the end of the summer, Chris Ryland, Trustee of the school, sadly passed away. Chris was more than just a Trustee or governor. He had been part of the Board for over 25 years, Chairing the Resources and Admissions Committee, Vice Chair of governors and serving as Co-Chair of Trustees, helping steer the school through academisation, expansion and the development of the new Sixth Form. A formidable contribution. But it will be in supporting and developing our international work that Chris’ legacy will be most enduring.
Since 2018 our pioneering exchange work with schools in South Korea was inspired by his connection with the Soldiers of Gloucester Museum. Chris forged the partnership with Paju city and Stroud High School. He even supported the first visit by students in 2018 by attending the exchange. This has created partnerships, friendships and opportunities – this year we will welcome students from Goyan Global High School in January, and our Sixth Form students will visit South Korea in May. Stroud High School has been acknowledged by the South Korean government, consistently supported by the Turing Project, and yesterday we welcomed the Mayor of Paju and his delegation into school. Chris would have been proud of the welcome we gave the Mayor and that we continue to build upon his legacy.
We will miss him greatly.
