Stroud High Celebrates A Level Success

Stroud High School Sixth Form has been celebrating another year of exceptional A Level success, reaffirming its place as one of the highest-performing state schools in the South West.

The school community came together this morning — students, teachers, and proud parents — to share in the excitement as envelopes were opened and grades were revealed. Smiles, cheers, and a few happy tears marked the moment as this year’s results were confirmed: 74% of grades at A-B, over 40% at A/A, and nearly 40% of students securing AAB or higher.

Students shone across the curriculum: almost a quarter of Biology grades were at A*, over half of Chemistry results and 47% of Physics grades were at A*/A, with Maths achieving 44% at A*/A. In French, a third of grades were at A*, while English achieved well over half at A*/A — including one in five at the coveted A*. Creative subjects were also cause for celebration, with every single student in Fine Art, Graphics, Design Technology and Music securing A*-B grades.

Beyond the percentages and grades, the Class of 2025 has embraced every opportunity, from History fieldwork at Auschwitz and the Ten Tors challenge to cultural exchanges in South Korea and Thailand. They have led the whole school fundraising campaign for Stroud Women’s Refuge,  led students in House competitions, brought the stage to life with a stunning production of Les Misérables, debated at international level, as well as supported local primary schools in our primary outreach programme. They have thrown themselves into school life with dedication and energy.

Headteacher, Mark McShane, now in his 12th year leading the school, said: “I am absolutely thrilled with these results. They are a testament to the hard work, resilience, and ambition of our students, and to the dedication of our whole staff body. Most of all, they are an endorsement of a community built on positivity and opportunity. I am super proud of everyone involved.”

Ria Patel, Head of Sixth Form, added: “These results reflect the vibrancy of our Sixth Form community. Stroud High Sixth Form is a place where young people feel supported, inspired, and able to express themselves while striving to achieve their very best in their A Levels. It’s a positive, dynamic environment where students grow not just as students, but as confident, compassionate individuals ready to make their mark in the world.”
